“ You got to go thru THIS “

Joshua 1:1–5 KJV 1900
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

“ You got to go thru THIS “

Subtitle: “ You can make it “

Some of us today
Are going thru some
Strange - Strenuous - Stressful - Situations
But you HAVE TO GO THRU THIS
And one of the reasons
You have to go thru THIS
Is because
God
Has allowed you to be at this place in your life
Joshua 1:1-5
God wants Joshua to Know
That in spite of what just happen
( Moses death )
And in spite of what
You’re going to face
You can make it ( Edith )
The point of the text
Is Israel OBEDIENCE to God
And there TRUSTING God
To get from not enough
Just enough
To more than enough
God tells Joshua
It’s time now for you
To experience life in Canaan
Joshua & Caleb was the only 2 people alive
In that day that had experience living
In Egypt & the wilderness
Joshua had experience living in Egypt
Which represents the place of NOT ENOUGH
But he also experience living in the wilderness
Which represents the place of JUST ENOUGH
But in this text God speaks to Joshua
Because God wants him to know
That it is time for you
To experience life like never before
Note: Often times when we experience tragedy in our life we think that we can’t move on and experience God’s best
God knew that Joshua had experience life
In the place of NOT ENOUGH
And God also knew that Joshua had experience life
In the place of JUST ENOUGH
But Gods desire for Joshua and this generation
Was to live life in the place of
MORE THAN ENOUGH
But for Joshua
And this generation
To experience more than ENOUGH
They was going to have
To go thru some stuff
NOTE: The same word that God gave to Joshua is the same word that God is given to us & Edith right now. ( You Going thru BUT you can make it )
Explain: Joshua Chapter 1

1st. You got to go thru This — TRUST the PLAN of God ( V. 1-2 )

Joshua 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Note: Remember they are trying to get to the place of more than enough but they have to TRUST the PLAN of God.
Note: God has a PLAN for their lives ( Edith )
Note: If you ever wanna make God laugh, tell God your plan
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ( EXPLAIN )
Note: God is saying if I took care of you in Egypt for 430 years, I can take care of you in Babylon exile for 70 years. ( It’s my PLAN )
Joshua in the text
Is struggling with the plan of God
Simply because God’s plan
Has so many moving parts
EXAMPLE: The pass two and a half years we all have had to deal with a lot of moving parts & dealing with the Pandemic you had to deal with so many different MOVING PARTS ( But still God’s PLAN )
Verses 1 & 2
God shares with Joshua
The plan that he has for his life
It's a difficult plan
But it's a planned with a whole lot of moving parts
God’s plan was to
Bring Joshua & the children of Israel
To a better place
But Joshua was struggling
With God’s plan ( Edith you’re going to Struggle with what God is doing )
It was God's plan to take them
From not enough
To just enough
To more than enough
But they are having
A hard time moving IN
Because they are struggling
To move ON
They are struggling to move on because Deuteronomy 34:7-8 says
Deuteronomy 34:7-8 (NIV)
7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.
8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.
Some of you can’t move on because of people IN your life
Some of you can’t move on because of People that WAS in your life
Some of you can’t move on because of People that God has CALLED HOME from your life.
God is trying to move them IN
But they can't move IN
Because they have not moved ON
And the reason why
They have not moved ON
Is because Moses have been moved OUT
God has decided that Moses
Can't go in to the promised land
And because
Moses have been moved OUT
They are struggling to move ON
And because they can't move ON
God can't move them IN
So in verse 2
God speaks to Joshua
And tells Joshua
It's time for you to move UP
Because if you don't move them UP
They cannot move ON
Based off who I moved out — which is Moses
But the moment I move you UP
You can speak to them
To help them to move ON
Because who I have moved OUT
Ain't coming back
Somebody is saying
Why did God
Have to move
Moses out the picture
Why did God have to move
The person I looked to for leadership
The person I leaned on when I got weak
That’s where somebody is struggling right now
Because you know Moses served
As a VITAL VISIBLE VALUABLE
Position in your life
There was nothing wrong with Moses
Moses was a great leader
Moses was a wonderful man
Moses lived to be 120 years old
He spent his life in 3 sections of 40 years
The first 40 years of his live
He spent them in the Palace
Thinking he was a somebody
The second 40 years of his life
He spent them in the desert
Feeling like a nobody
But the last 40 years of his life
He spent them as a prophet
Realizing that God can use anybody
Moses was the litigated for Israel
Moses was the legislator for Israel
Moses was the liberator for Israel
When God needed a liberator
He sent Moses to Pharaoh
To tell Pharaoh to let my people go
When the people needed the law
Moses was the legislator
He was the one that came down from Mount Sinai
With the ten commandments
When the people need a litigator
Somebody to talk to God on their behalf
And to talk to the people on God’s behalf
Moses was the middle man
Moses was a great man
But the problem was
His season was over
Trust the Plan of God

1st: You got to go thru This — Trust the PLAN of God (v.1-2)

2nd: You got to go thru This — Travel the PATH of God (v. 2)

Joshua 1:2 (KJV 1900) 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
You have to travel the path that God has for your life
Note: When you look at the children of Israel route coming out of Egypt it was the long route
( Travel the PATH of God )
Verse 2—“This Jordan”
EXAMPLE: Crossing Bayou Tech different ways
God put the word “ THIS “
To remind Joshua how hard
It’s going to be
Jordan represents the path that’s difficult
Jordan represents the path that’s daunting
Jordan represents the path that’s dangerous
Jordan represents the path that’s deep
Jordan represents the path that possibly could be discouraging
Why would God allow THIS kind of path for my life that’s difficult—daunting—dangerous—deep—possibly discouraging
God knows that there’s something
Waiting for you on the opposite side of THIS
And you’re never get to THAT
If you can’t deal with THIS
You’ll never get to THAT
If you break down over THIS
If you look at God’s track record
And every individual
That God used in the bible
And did something major in their life
God always had put A THIS & A THAT
In their life
Abraham— ( THIS )Sacrifice Isaac ( THAT ) Jehovah-jireh
Joshua—( THIS )Walls of Jericho—( THAT )Conquering the City
David— ( THIS )Valley of Death—( THAT )Table before his enemies
Paul— ( THIS )Thorn— ( THAT )Grace
Jesus— ( THIS )Cross— ( THAT )Seated down at the right hand of God
Note: Don’t desire somebody else’s path because if you want their PATH you got to have their PROBLEMS

1st: you can make it when you — TRUST the PLAN of GOD ( V. 1-2 )

2nd: you can make it when you — TRAVEL the PATH of GOD ( V. 2 )

3rd: you can make it when you — TREAD on the PROMISE of GOD ( V. 3-5)

Joshua 1:3–5 (KJV 1900)
3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Understand
That God’s promises
Are never without
Some problems
when you read verses 3-5
There’s some places mention in verses 3-5
Places like Lebanon
The great sea
The River Euphrates
Don’t get caught up on those places
Because what blesses me
Is not the places mention in verses 3-5
It’s the promises mention in verses 3-5
God has made 3 incredible promises to Joshua
In verses 3-5
God looks at Joshua
And say Joshua you have
To tread on these 3 promises

1st: You got to go thru This TRUST the PLAN of GOD ( V. 1-2 )

2nd: You got to go thru This TRAVEL the PATH of GOD ( V. 2 )

3rd: You got to go thru This TREAD on the PROMISE of GOD ( V. 3-5)

Define: Fail — to forsake or leave behind, abandon ( Joshua / Edith don’t you think this )

1st: I’m giving you FAVOR in your FOOTSTEPS ( V. 3 )

Verse 3
Psalm 37:23-24 (KJV)
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

1st: I’m giving you FAVOR in your FOOTSTEPS V. 3 )

2nd: I’m giving you FORCE Against your FOES ( V. 5 )

Verse 5

1st: I’m giving you FAVOR in your FOOTSTEPS ( V.3 )

2nd: I’m giving you FORCE against your FOES ( V. 5 )

3rd: I’m giving you FELLOWSHIP with the FATHER ( V. 5 )
